Resonate: An Audiovisual Interactive Experience

Sept. 25 to Oct. 22. – Roberta’s Gallery, Whitewater, Wisconsin

Resonate is an immersive audiovisual interactive work by Nick Hwang, an interdisciplinary artist who explores the connections between art, technology, and interaction. This innovative piece utilizes procedural algorithms and AI to stochastically generate audio and visuals from constructed interactive, rotation-aware cubes. By design, the work evolves over time, remembering the varying combinations and states of the cubes and media, gradually transforming throughout the show.

The media in Resonate is dynamic and fluid, with visuals and audio that are sometimes obviously different and sometimes similar. They will move in and out of synchrony, creating a captivating experience that shifts and changes as the exhibition progresses. This interplay between audio and visual elements ensures that each moment of the show is unique, engaging the audience in an ongoing, evolving interaction. Each factor builds into the next, with the cubes’ rotations influencing the media generated, affecting the overall progression and evolution of the audiovisual experience.

Hwang’s practice incorporates programming, audio and music, and design (graphic, interaction, interface, experiential), resulting in audiovisual, gestural, explorative, immersive, and collaborative works. As an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the Media Arts and Game Development program, Hwang brings expertise in interactivity, digital signal processing, sound design, audio programming, and game development.

Resonate promises to be a dynamic and evolving experience, engaging audiences in a collaborative exploration of sound and visuals. For more information about Nick Hwang’s work, visit [www.NickHwang.com](http://www.NickHwang.com).
